About the Position:

A well-established and expanding mid-size construction and consulting firm located in the East Bay Area is looking for an experienced cost estimator, ranging from mid-level to senior, to join its rapidly expanding Construction and Field Services Division. This role involves overseeing all aspects of project estimation for environmental and civil construction bids and projects. Responsibilities include analyzing RFPs, plans, and specifications, conducting quantity takeoffs, sourcing pricing from vendors and subcontractors, developing precise production rates, and assisting project managers with estimates for change orders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the evaluation of bidding opportunities to determine viable projects.
  • Analyze construction plans and specifications, utilizing Bluebeam Revu and other estimating tools to generate quantity takeoffs that support estimate development.
  • Participate in site visits and bid walks to collect essential site-specific details that influence construction estimates.
  • Prepare and issue bid packages, soliciting quotes from suppliers, equipment providers, and specialty subcontractors. Carefully review and assess all received bids for accuracy, completeness, and pricing, selecting those to be included in the final estimates.
  • Develop cost estimates using the company’s proprietary estimating system.
  • Lead pre-final and final bid reviews with senior construction managers prior to bid submission.
  • Provide construction managers with cost estimates for change orders.
  • Collaborate with fellow estimators on larger proposals to ensure comprehensive estimates.
  • Maintain and update databases with historical pricing information to compare past project production rates with those estimated for new projects.
  • Keep databases of current labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor pricing rates up to date.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction engineering, science, or management.
  • Over 5 years of hands-on experience with proven success in leading and developing construction estimates for environmental remediation and civil construction projects.
  • Willingness to travel to job sites for bid walks throughout Northern California as needed.
  • Knowledge of prevailing wages, industry codes, and standards.
  • Ability and readiness to travel across California for pre-bid meetings and site walks (valid driver’s license required).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Capability to work effectively within a dynamic and collaborative team environment.
