The Art Department at Westfield State University seeks applications for a tenure-track position in Animation and Illustration. We seek a passionate and experienced individual to join our dynamic faculty.
Duties and Responsibilities: Duties include but not limited to:
The Animation concentration is the fastest growing discipline within the Art Department at Westfield State University. The curriculum supports tactile and digital methods in both animation and illustration, so the ideal candidate should be professionally established in both, and able to prove associations with both commercial ventures in the field. This opportunity affords the ideal candidate to reshape the animation concentration to keep up with industry standards and connect the students with experiential educational opportunities outside of the classroom.
The department seeks a dynamic candidate who excels in every facet of animation-from the essentials of 2D and 3D animation, such as storyboarding, layout, acting, timing, and character design, to narrative. Experience with animation for game design or mixed reality would be beneficial for curriculum development. The ideal candidate will bring a blend of creativity and expertise to teach both foundational and advanced studio classes, skillfully merging traditional techniques with cutting-edge technologies. We are looking for an energetic artist and educator passionate about shaping the future of animation and mentoring the next generation of industry leaders.
In addition to the development and teaching of undergraduate courses, faculty are expected to engage in scholarly activity, which can take many different forms, including creative scholarship. Faculty provide academic advising and other support to students. Opportunities to advise student research are available and encouraged. Faculty are also expected to offer service to the department, University, and community. Westfield State University is proud to consider itself a teaching university, where faculty are encouraged to develop innovative pedagogy and experiential learning opportunities for the classroom. The teaching load is 24 credits each year, typically 12 credits each semester. Experience working in all facets of studio direction and animation production are highly desirable.
Requirements: Required Qualifications: - Candidates must be committed to excellence in teaching
- An MFA or other terminal degree in Animation
- Substantial (and demonstrated) experience in feature film and television industries
- Substantial (and demonstrated) experience in experimental or short-format independent work
Preferred Qualifications: - Collegiate teaching experience
- A demonstrated commitment to promoting domestic diversity and/or global multiculturalism in the curriculum where appropriate
- An understanding of motion graphics and mixed reality, and the software used to create them
Additional Information: Salary: Salaries for current Westfield State University employees and individuals currently working for the state of Massachusetts must be calculated individually in accordance with collective bargaining agreements as well as state policies.
